City as a Circular Laboratory
At Play the City, we have started developing our first Circular City Game for the neighbourhood of Buiksloterham (Amsterdam-Noord), which has been designated as a ‘living lab’ for the implementation of circular principles.
A recent article in The Guardian argues that cities are in fact the perfect testing grounds for circular economy principles. With their high levels of density and technological concentration, it is cities who will be at the forefront of circular innovations.
The article presents Buiksloterham as an important example of circular experimentation and innovation using a bottom-up approach.
It also mentions a wide range of other Circular City developments, such as Singapore’s Pungoll Eco Town which is applying circular principles to large-scale public housing schemes.
The world we live in is changing, and cities are having to adapt quickly. We’re excited to be a part of that change!
